Similar to Mario, Baby Mario often jumps ahead when a problem rises. Baby Mario is impulsive at times, unlike Mario, including when he uses his hammer in misbehavior. He is also shown to know that an object has bad vibes, such as crying at the Cobalt Star because it contains the Elder Princess Shroob inside it.

Originally from the Paper Mario series, Paper Mario is introduced to Mario and Luigi when Luigi tips over a book and releases the Paper Mario characters into their world. Paper Mario can create copies of himself to mitigate his low HP and attack multiple times at once. When dodging, when he jumps, he can float briefly.

Paper Mario and the Mario Bros. After the Mario Bros beat him and Private Goomp and the Koopa Cruiser crashes in the Beanbean Kingdom, the young Goomba wakes up in a cave and after some adventuring, he comes across a small group of his brethren, and after a comical reunion, they name him the captain of their squad. Although they do this because no one else wants to and they have no respect for Captain Goomba, the captain all but takes off from there as he turns into the leader the army needs and rallies the army back to rescue Bowser.

He is the second captain after Captain Goomba, and joins him in Beanbean Fields after mistaking him for Fawful's minions. Being a Shy Guy, he is often quiet and can be very embarrased easily, as shown during the Cutie Battle Contest.

He is the third captain, and joins Captain Goomba in Chucklehuck Woods, although he only wanted a flag to help block the sunlight but took on his role as a captain anyway. Out of all the captains, Captain Boo appears to possess the most amount of common sense. He is the last captain, and joins Captain Goomba in Teehee Valley. He often speaks in rhymes which is often followed by the sound of wind, and is often ignored when doing so.

Bowser Jr. However, his selfish nature causes problems for everyone around him, and when the Best Fitness Friends begin to attack the Koopalings, Bowser Jr. He is manipulated once again when he is turned into Shrowser by the Elder Princess Shroob.

She and Fawful had stolen Princess Peach's voice. She has also caused trouble in Beanbean Kingdom by transforming Queen Bean into a giant beast and stealing the Beanstar.

After Mario and Luigi defeated her, Fawful took her soul and placed it into Bowser's body, transforming Bowser into Bowletta. Bowletta kidnaps Princess Peach and demands Mario and Luigi to find all of the shattered pieces of the Beanstar and bring them to her in exchange of releasing Peach although it is implied she was lying about this.

After she loses Peach and the Beanstar however, she uses Bowser's Castle to attack the Beanbean Kingdom, at which point Mario and Luigi go and defeat her for good by destroying her heart, and releasing Bowser from Cackletta's control in the process. Fawful is Cackletta's servant. He speaks in Engrish and uses many food-related metaphors. He runs an underground badge shop the Baby Mario Bros. He has usurped Bowser's Castle while creating an outbreak of Blorbs.

The Shroobs are an alien race that has invaded Mushroom Kingdom in the past. They have trapped Toads and extracted their vim to power their technology. They can shoot bolts transforming characters into Shroob Mushrooms. The Shroobs speak a foreign language. One of the Shroobs major weakness is baby tears. When Princess Peach has traveled to the past, Princess Shroob manages to capture her, but not without Peach trapping the Elder Princess Shroob - the real leader of the shoobs - in the Cobalt Star.

It is only after Princess Shroob is mortally wounded in battle that this is revealed, however. But it freed the Elder Princess Shroob who promised to kill the bros for her sister's recent death. It was put in the Toad Town Caves so that nobody would be able to use it's power.

However, Fawful steals it, and uses Peach to awaken the Dark Star so he can absorb it's power. He is behind the destruction of the Dark Stone and the freezing of the Pi'illos. Mario must enter Luigi 's dreams in order to rescue Antasma's victims, which by the time Mario starts to enter Luigi's dreams include Princess Peach , whom Antasma abducts early in the game. He also teams up with Bowser, and the two villains later set their sights on the Dream Stone , which holds the power to grant any wish.

Bowser later reveals that he is merely using Antasma to advance his own schemes. Originally from the Paper Mario series, Paper Bowser along with other paper characters such as Paper Mario, escapes from the storybook Luigi has accidentally opened. When he initially meets Bowser, the two bicker, but they ultimately cooperate and kidnap Princess Peach and Paper Princess Peach. They were three of Fawful's minions who sought to overthrow him and take control of the kingdom themselves. They tricked Bowser Jr.

Princess Peach is usually a victim when trouble arises in Mushroom Kingdom. In all games, she is kidnapped at some point. Peach, however, is not entirely helpless, since she has provided help to the Mario Bros. Toadsworth is Princess Peach's companion. He is often worrisome about Peach, especially if Peach decides to take a trip. He appears in Luigi's image, but is entirely composed of green goo, hence his name, and wields a gooey version of the Poltergust and Poltergust G He also has a letter "G" on his hat instead of an "L".

He was created by the future Professor E. Gadd from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. He is edible, and has been described as tasting like coffee.

The leader of the Boos , King Boo is the main antagonist of the series. In the first game, he releases several of E. Gadd's captured portrait ghosts and tricks Mario and Luigi into thinking Luigi won a mansion in a contest. In the second, he destroys the Dark Moon to cause the friendly ghosts in Evershade Valley to turn hostile and takes on a much more serious tone compared to the previous game.

In the third, he is released from his painting by Hellen Gravely , and retains his threatening tone from the second game. A Big Boo composed of several smaller Boos, Boolossus appears as the third boss in the first game. Prior to the game's events, Boolossus had been captured by Professor E. Gadd, although King Boo attacked his lab and freed Boolossus, along with the rest of the portrait ghosts. Boolossus also appears in the ScareScraper in the third game.

A ghost artist who is responsible for all the minor ghosts that Luigi must capture in the first game, as well as the one who guards the key to the Secret Altar. A big fan of King Boo's and the owner of the Last Resort Hotel, she acts as an antagonist of Luigi's Mansion 3 , where she captures Mario and several of his friends in paintings in order to impress King Boo.

A typically timid species, Toads act primarily as save points in the first game. In the second game, they are E. Gadd's assistants, and hold footage from security cameras, but must be escorted to a Pixelator before it can be seen. In the third game, three Toads who came with Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach are turned into paintings and have to be saved throughout the game and brought back to E.

Gadd's Lab. Spherical ghosts, most Boos prefer to hide and run instead of fight. In the first game, they must be sucked up to advance at certain points, but the light in the room they hide in must be turned on to do so. Once Luigi finds them, they try to escape to another room.

In the second game, they use Spirit Balls to cast illusions, turning objects invisible, and exposing the correct object draws out the Boo. In the first game, there are 50 , in the second, 32 , and in the third, 16 , most of which have their own pun-based name. Ghosts are the various spectral enemies throughout the games. In the first game, most of them are creations of the ghost artist Vincent Van Gore brought to "life," in the second, the ghosts are normal inhabitants of Evershade Valley that turned hostile when the Dark Moon is shattered, and in the third, they work at the Last Resort hotel.

The first game also contains the more powerful portrait ghosts , most of which have their own unique personalities and abilities, whereas the third game introduces Boss Ghosts , which are similar to the portrait ghosts from the first game but act as more traditional bosses. This might be the one and only reference in terms of lore to Super Mario Bros. That is still a black sheep of the Mario series. The game was inventive being that most of it took place in a dream world but there were also parts that dragged a bit like having to collect Toads. It was still a good Mario RPG. Technically, this 3DS remake was the last game in the series to debut which saw the closing of the developer as mentioned earlier.

It did not sell well despite good reviews. Part of that reason might be because this was , two years after the Switch launched when Nintendo fans probably had already moved platforms. If this came out on the Switch then the developers might still be around.

Controversial news aside, this game saw Bowser as the main attraction. It made Bowser goofy but he was still treated with respect.

Of the two versions, the DS one still feels better.
