Hope this helps. No one has been on this computer but me, and I build all my own from scratch. I am the only one to have touched this computer or its hardware from now back to the day when I received the parts from Newegg.
This happened after a update a while back good while. At the time I had tried removing the updates etc. Also, I do not have Win7 showing at boot, as I have Vista listed as default, it will only show at boot if I try and set Vista to normal and not selective startup, because it will add Win7 to the boot list and set as default. The fact that this computer does not have other users is why this has bugged me so much, I have no idea whats going on, as I have never seen this before and everyone I ask all suggest the same thing thinking Win7 had been installed before.
However, I am willing to try just about anything, I just don't want to have to format and reinstall to get rid of a boot option. Do you notice any Services or Startup Programs that are not selected? Is original boot configuration greyed? If it is not, select it, apply the changes and restart the computer. Is there anyway to fix this? This thread is locked. MSConfig is a tool used to the configuration of Software, Devices Drivers, Boot parameters and startup services in Windows operating systems. We will just use the msconfig command like below. We can also open the MSconfig from the Start menu of the Windows operating system. We will just type msconfig which will list the MSconfig as a first item.
We can also use the Run Menu in order to open MSconfig. When the MSconfig is opened the active tab is named General Tab. The General tab provides information about the startup selection. In this case, the System Configuration utility will not help troubleshoot the issue. If you cannot reproduce the issue after the computer restarts, the issue is related to either the system services or the startup items.
To determine the items to which the issue is related, follow these steps:. On the General tab, click Selective startup , and then click to select the Load system services check box. If you can reproduce the issue after the computer restarts, the issue is related to one of the system services.
Otherwise, the issue is related to one of the startup items. After you determine the items to which the issue is related, follow the steps in the "How to determine the service or startup item that is causing the issue" section to determine the individual service or startup item that is causing the issue.
To determine the cause of the issue, you can prevent individual services and startup items from loading when you restart the computer. You can follow these steps. Click the Services tab, click Disable all , click to select the check box for the first service that is listed, and then restart the computer. With the first service selected, click to select the check box for the second service, and then restart the computer.
Repeat this process until you reproduce the issue. If you cannot reproduce the issue, you can eliminate system services as the cause. Continue to the next procedure. Click the General tab, and then click to select the Load startup items check box. Click the Startup tab, click Disable all , click to select the check box for the first startup item that is listed, and then restart the computer. With the first startup item selected, click to select the check box for the second startup item, and then restart the computer.
The Services and Startup tabs in the System Configuration utility have the following options:. When you click to clear a check box for an item, the Selective Startup option on the General tab is automatically selected. After you complete your troubleshooting and fix your configuration, return to a normal startup. You can follow these steps:. On the General tab, click Normal startup , and then click OK. You can use the Tools tab in the System Configuration utility to start diagnostic tools and other advanced tools.
